Solutions for Psychiatric Hospitals & Care HomesThere is little doubt that smoking within Psychiatric and long-stay care units is a problem. Passive smoking affects patients and staff alike, and with psychiatric facilities and care homes being announced as exempt from the impending smoking ban in England, the path to provide a real solution is clear. This section showcases the products that Tornex have developed for use in Psychiatric and long-stay care units. Working alongside NHS Trusts and Private Hospital Groups we have managed to create solutions that are safe for use within low, medium and high security facilities It is our intention to provide high quality solutions to protect staff from passive smoking and create a much improved environment for residents/patients. Some of our installations include St. Andrew’s Group of Hospitals, Partnerships In Care Ltd, The Priory and most recently Oxford & Bucks Mental Health NHS Trust. Tornex TX902 Ceiling Unit with Demand Managed SystemThe TX902 Ceiling Unit has been developed to be as ligature free as possible. It is clad in specially developed covers to provide a safe solution for use within low, medium and high security wards. Positioned inside a smoking room, the unit draws in smoky air through the inlet grille, filters the air through the three stage filtration system, and then exhausts it as cleaned air via the outlet grille. The control panel is usually installed in a nearby nurse’s office and controls all functions of the system (as detailed fully in the Operating Manual). As part of our new ‘Demand Managed System’ we can also install an Air Quality Sensor and a Motion Sensor within the smoking room. The Air Quality Sensor adjusts the fan speed of the TX902 (low/high) according to the air quality within the room. The Motion Sensor will ensure that the system does not run when the room is empty; it can be programmed to allow the system to run for up to 40 minutes after the last detected movement. The air curtain comprises of two cross-flow fans and blows a constant flow of air in a downward motion from the top of the door opening. The BP2 air curtain is used with most Tornex installations and is an important part of the Tornex Smoking Room Solution. When combined with sufficient extract facilities, the BP2 helps to prevent smoke from leaking from the room and, therefore, helps to protect staff from passive smoking. BP2 Datasheet (PDF)
